by Martha Adams

Have you ever stared longingly at Bella Hadid’s high brows, Kim Kardashian’s creaseless under eyes, or Gemma Chan’s defined cheekbones and wondered, how the heck do they look like that?! So have we.

And unfortunately the answer is probably a mix of strong genetics and a lot of filler.

But if injectables aren’t your thing, there are a few quick tricks you can try at home to tighten your skin, slim your face and give yourself that lifted look we all dream of.

Use makeup to make your eyes look bigger

Whether you become a master at winged liner, fall in love with false lashes, or start rocking crazy coloured shadows, making your eyes look bigger creates a focal point, drawing attention to your eyes and slimming out the face. Big eyes also compliment a strong contour, which we’ll get to later.

Pull your hair back

Probably the oldest trick in the book; use your hair to give yourself a mini facelift by using a fine tooth comb to pull it back super tight around your hairline (specifically at your temples). This works for high ponytails, updos and half-up half-down styles. If you’re feeling extra crafty, you can even do this with a down hairstyle by taking tendrils at your temples, pulling them tight behind your head and fastening them underneath the top half of your hair. The top of your hair will cover them so no one will be any wiser!

Learn to work lip liner

Similar to our big eyes trick, lining your lips helps create a fuller pout which slims out your cheeks, chin, and jawline areas. Use a lip liner about two shades darker than your lipstick and trace a line just above the natural curve of your lips. Lightly fill in your lips with lip liner before applying your lipstick for a seamless blend and to help prevent it from bleeding.

Put down the full coverage products

Full coverage products are amazing if you want to create a completely blank canvas to work on top of. However, if you want youthful, glowing skin, full coverage may not be doing you the best of favours. Full coverage products cover up everything, including your face’s natural shadows and dimension. Instead, reach for a foundation and concealer with a more natural finish, like YSL Top Secret BB Cream and Synergie Skin Concealer .

Brush your eyebrows up

High eyebrows add definition to the face, making it look slimmer and more youthful. If you’re not blessed with a high brow arch, you can achieve the illusion by creating fluffy, full brows. Instead  of filling them in with your go-to pencil or pomade , brush them up with a spoolie and run a coloured brow gel through them, like MCoBeauty’s More Brows .

Bronze your forehead

If you’re still perfecting your makeup game, this trick is one of the easiest that anyone can do! Take a huge fluffy brush and with a matte bronzer, like Benefit’s Hoola , lightly bronze your forehead. Focus on your hairline and blend it down the middle of your forehead (stopping just above the area where the t-zone starts). This trick works miracles for anyone with a larger forehead and helps tie your contour together.

Contour

Finally, this article wouldn’t be complete without a contour mention. Contouring your face is probably the most effective way to create a more snatched look, but it does take some practice. If you’re a beginner, start with a powder bronzer as they’re easier to work with, and lightly bronze the natural concaves of your cheeks and under your jawline. If you mess up or think it looks too harsh, bounce a makeup sponge, like the EcoTools Perfecting Blender Applicator , over it to blend it out!
