7 things we want to see at Sephora

by Martha Adams

By now we all know that Sephora is opening its doors in Australia in December and it is truly very exciting. Like I’ve-already-started-my-wish-list level of exciting.

Several of the brands that'll be stocked have already been announced: the full ranges of Marc Jacobs Beauty, Tarte, Kat Von D, MAKE UP FOR EVER, Andre Fullerton, Boscia, Skin Inc, For Beloved One, Formula X, and Percy & Reed have all been confirmed for sale in Australia. Of course, there are many more brands to be announced in the coming months (watch this space!).

But Sephora isn’t just about the beauty bits you can buy; there are other awesome benefits from shopping with the world’s largest beauty retailer that we really hope to see when the doors open here.

These are just seven of the US Sephora store policies that we realllllllllly want, too:

A GENEROUS RETURNS POLICY

In the States, you can return pretty much anything to Sephora (used or unused) if you’re unhappy with it and get a full refund with a receipt. And if you don’t have a receipt, you just need a government-issued ID to get store credit.

ONLINE SPECIALS

There’s been no word yet on whether or not Sephora will be launching an Australian website, but we really hope it happens because the US website offers members amazing beauty samples, specials and gifts with purchase. Just one look at these offers (and they're just the tip of the iceberg, too) has us drooling.

BONUSES FOR BEING A MEMBER

Anyone can sign up to become a Sephora Beauty Insider and start accumulating points when you spend in store or online. You can then spend your points on gifts and free items. If you spend $350 in a calendar year, you become a VIB (Very Important Beauty Insider), and if you spend more than $1000, you reach VIB Rouge status – both of these come with different benefits and promotions.

COMPLIMENTARY MAKE-UP SERVICES

Don’t really know how to nail a smoky eye? Or maybe you’re not sure which lipstick is right for you? Every US Sephora offers a free 15-minute express make-up service where you can be shown how to transform your look in no time at all.

CUSTOM MAKEOVERS

Over in America, when you spend over $50, you can receive a 45-minute custom makeover. And when you spend at least $125, you can indulge in a 90-minute beauty consultation that includes a custom makeover and personal shopping sessions.

COLOUR MATCHING

Sephora retail assistants carry around a fancy device called the Color IQ, which can help them swatch your skin tone and connect it to a Pantone number. That information then brings up the foundation shades that will be suitable for you across all of the brands sold in Sephora. So cool, right?

BEAUTY CLASSES

Another benefit of being a Sephora Beauty Insider is the opportunity to attend beauty classes in select stores for free. We know there’s only going to be one store (for now, anyway) in Australia, but here’s hoping they’ll hold these regularly!

We've only got four months until Sephora opens its doors, so best to start reading some of the reviews on beautyheaven for those beauty bits on your wishlist (or, you know, you can just do it once you're in the store, frothing at the mouth like a madwoman). The real reviews from real women are bound to ensure you leave the store with bags full of products you'll love.

Which of these policies would you most like to see in the Australian Sephora stores? Which other brands do you hope to see in Sephora Australia?
