5 reasons you should go bare-faced

by Martha Adams

It’s no secret that here in the beautyheaven office, we love makeup . We wear it, we play with it and of course, we write about it. But we also love a bare-faced beauty look. Going bare-faced is one of the best things you can do for your skin. If you suffer from breakouts or sensitive or lacklustre skin, switching to a minimal makeup routine could make the world of difference.

Choose one day to go bare-faced, whether it’s makeup free Monday, Wednesday or Sunday, pick one day a week and you’ll do your skin a world of good. And if the idea of braving a bare-faced beauty look makes you shudder, even just switching your foundation for a BB cream is a great first step to a minimal makeup routine.

Still not convinced? Here are five reasons why you should try going bare-faced at least once a week.

#1 Give your skin a break

As you’ve probably figured out over the years, makeup sits on top of your skin and blocks your pores. Now, if you properly remove your makeup every night, this isn’t so bad, but if you can ditch dolling up every now and then, your skin will be able to breathe for hours. This promotes faster skin cell renewal, meaning you’ll be rocking a brighter, healthier-looking complexion in time.

Can’t bear the thought of going sans makeup? Swap out your foundation for a BB cream . The all-in-one product combines the benefits of skincare and makeup, and who doesn’t love a multi-tasker?!

#2 Bye, breakouts

Fact: clogged pores often cause breakouts. By incorporating one (or if you’re really brave, two!) makeup free days into your week, you’ll reduce the likelihood of breaking out. This is particularly effective for those who struggle with pesky pimples well into adulthood. You could also try adding a cleanser for acne-prone skin into your routine while you’re at it. Hello bare skin, goodbye adult acne!

#3 Soak up the skincare

Going bare-faced gives you more time to focus on your skin. You can apply a luxurious moisturiser and let it  work its magic throughout the day without any interruptions.

If you’re breakout prone you can apply a spot treatment to blemishes, and it won’t affect your makeup base. We like using a clear treatment, so nobody will know you’ve got it on. #winning

#4 You’ll look younger

It’s true – wearing a full face of makeup can add several years to your appearance. So when you go au naturale, you shave years off, just like that! Enough said, really. Want another trick for looking years younger? Full brows . Thick brows are a sign of youth and will give you a fresher appearance. Try tinting your eyebrows at home and using a clear brow gels to sculpt them into bigger, better brows.

#5 It saves time

Lazy girls, rejoice! Take makeup application out of the equation, and you have more time in the morning to apply your favourite face mask, make an incredible breakfast or – let’s be honest, this is the most likely scenario – hit the snooze button a few more times.
